Teen Robs Bank Dressed In Sisters Halloween Costume
At approximately 3pm on Wednesday February 17th an unarmed teen entered a branch of the First National Gary Bank in Gary, IN and demanded money. The 13 year old boy was dressed as Strawberry Shortcake complete with the strawberry red wig and thigh high stockings.
Bank employee Martha Livingston said " I didn't know what was going on. I thought it was a practical joke." The teen boy began skipping around the bank branch acting like a girl and raising his voice to make people believe he was really a she.
Bank employees were either laughing uncontrollably or ducking for cover. "It was all very funny except for the part where we were being robbed", says bank manager Justin Holmes. The young thief got agitated with the employees that were not taking him seriously. One employee gave the would be robber $180 from their drawer.
The boy Strawberry Shortcake could be heard shouting obscenities at tellers and bank customers for laughing at him as he fled the scene. Bank employees didn't know whether to laugh or call the cops when the ordeal had ended. Police quickly caught up with the young Strawberry Shortcake about one mile from the bank.
Police officer Darin Narby was quoted as saying it was pretty easy to spot the suspect riding down the street on his Huffy ten-speed in 20 degree weather wearing a Strawberry Shortcake Halloween costume that was about five sizes to small.
The sweet thief is being held in the Gary juvenile detention center awaiting his bail hearing. The money was recovered and no injuries were reported except for a few sore ribs from laughing too hard.
