Filling for Duvets and Pillows
Most people are aware of the material when they buy duvets and pillows, but many forget to think about the filling, which is actually just as important as the rest.

The filling of duvets ，bedding and pillows can be made from a variety of different materials, such as down, feathers, fibers, natural latex, or shaped foam. I shall explain the characteristics of each material.
Down comes from aquatic birds like ducks and geese. Down functions as an insulator. Down feathers are almost three-dimensional and have many hooked and airy strands which can both absorb moisture and keep the body warm. Feathers are created from horn. They are two-dimensional and sit on the outside of the down in order to protect it against impact. Feathers curve and that's why they are ideal for supporting the neck in pillows as under pressure the feathers will try to return to their natural form. - Down and feathers are particularly good at insulating the body as they can trap still air, which the body then warms up. Their greatest advantage, however, is that they absorb moisture and transport it away from the body, something which synthetic fibers cannot do. - When buying a down duvet or pillow, you should look at the tog rating as this tells you a lot about the insulation values of the duvet. The tog rating tells you how much air is in the filling. Down with a high tog rating gives a light and plump duvet, providing the best insulation.
Another kind of filling is various kinds of synthetic fibers. The filling in fiber duvets can be made from various materials, such as polyester, which each have a number of characteristics and benefits. The fibers' insulation abilities depend on their ability to trap still air which is heated up by the body. One kind of fibers is hollow fibers. Making the fibers hollow achieves a certain level of insulation as the fibers contain still air. Silicone fibers provide a softer effect. These types of fibers tend to be used in duvets and allow them to mould to the body and provide insulation. The last kind of fibers I shall describe is Microfibers. By blowing very small fibers into the duvet or pillow you get a "down-like" effect. These fibers are finer and softer than other fibers and are also known as blown fibers. A fiber-filled duvet or pillow is machine washable and suitable for tumble drying as long as you follow the instructions.
These kinds of fillings can be used for duvets and pillows alike. Natural latex on the other side is used for pillows only. It Is produced from the sap of rubber trees and is so soft that your head sinks a little into the pillow without the pillow getting lumpy, something which would otherwise prevent optimal blood circulation. Shaped foam is also for pillows only. It is affected by heat which means that the foam moulds itself precisely to the shape of your head. This provides you with optimal neck support.
So, many choices to be made, but spending a little time finding out what suits you the best will pay in the end. The price of the different kind of products varies a great deal, but one advice would be to go online to check out suppliers and manufacturers, both at home and abroad. For instance there are many China suppliers and China manufacturers who produce and sell bedding at far lower prices than their western counterparts.
